The Department of Environment and Natural Resources through its Environmental Management Bureau Region 11 conducted a Stakeholders’ Orientation on the EMB-Mandated Environmental Laws and One-Stop-Shop for the Processing of Permitting Requirements for PD 1586 or the Philippine Environmental Impact Statement System, RA 8749 or the Clean Air Act, RA 9275 or the Clean Water Act, and RA 6969 or the Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Wastes Control Act to all project proponents in Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental.

The two-day activity, which was organized by the Clearance and Permitting Division, provided assistance to all proponents who were applying for permits and other requirements.

“We intend to bring our services closer to the public as we assist our clients with their needs when it comes to the processing of application of permits, clearances and other requirements”, For. Alvarez, Chief of the Clearance and Permitting Division said addressing before the participants.

In support to the advocacy of spreading awareness on the mandated environmental laws, an Information, Education and Communication Campaign on the Salient Features of the EMB mandates, including the Fisheries Law, and other policies were among the key topics tackled during the two-day activity held at Gloria’s Function Hotel on Wednesday, August 17 and at Avenue One Hotel on August 18.

For. Alvarez urged all project proponents to comply with all the regulatory laws to protect the environment. He also added that conducting the two-day activity gave way for the enhancement of educating the proponents on the EMB-mandated environmental laws, as well as the Fisheries Law and other policies, to ensure that all project proponents had a better understanding on regulatory compliances in all perspectives.

Similar activity was held in previous months to small scale mining operators in Davao de Oro. The Clearance and Permitting Division intends to conduct series of similar activities within Davao Region.
