In a bid to efficiently enforce the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act or RA 9003 by the LGUs. EMB-XI thru the Solid Waste Management Section conducted a two-day Capacity Building on Waste Analysis and Characterization Study (WACS) on May 12-14, 2021 at the Cavanico Il Mare Resort in the Island Garden City of SAmal.
The two-day activity highlighted the significance of WACS in developing strategies to avoid, reduce, recycle, recovery, treatment, and disposal of wastes in local government units . Through WACS, wastes that are generated by the local government units are determined in terms of volume, percent age in weight or its volumetric equivalent, material type from its sourceswhich include residential, commercial, industrial and other sources . Aside from this, the local government units will enable to determine the composition of wastes which serve as reference in formulating effective and sustainable approaches leading to implement waste reduction, avoidance, recycling, recovery, treatment and waste disposal.
In adopting the WACS, local government units must apply certain guidelines which involve waste composition, sampling of waste, moisture content determination, sorting and statistical treatment of data.
