Since pandemic hit the nation for the last two years, outdoor activities were muted or cancelled as the virus continued to threaten and created devastation.

Now that the city is under Alert Level I, outdoor activities can now be conducted while observing minimum health protocols.

This year, the celebration of the Philippine Environment Month, which is observed every month of June is packed with activities that are in line with environmental protection, conservation, and preservation.

The theme “Aksyon Para Sa Natatanging Mundo” on World Environment Day which is commemorated every 5th of June, is a call to action to focus on policies, and programs that are directed towards environmental protection and sustainability. The impacts of climate change are worsening and more devastating in the coming years.

Meanwhile, a clean-up drive was conducted along a coastline area in Dumoy, Toril together with Pepsi Cola Products Philippines, Incorporated on June 04, 2022. Sacksful of garbage were collected which composed of biodegradables, non-biodegradables, and residuals. Protecting the marine waters by improving its water quality and reduction of waste were the main objectives of the clean-up. Garbage that pollute coastal waters causing damage to the marine environment.

On Wednesday, June 08, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources will engage on a tree growing activity at Sitio Talos, Santo Tomas in Davao del Norte dubbed “National Tree Planting Day”.

Aside from engaging activities that promote environmental protection, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources will also embark on activities that enhance sportsmanship and camaraderie among its employees through sports as DENR celebrates its anniversary on June 10 with “Pasiklaban sa DENR”, a cultural dance presentation of traditional folk dances will be featured. A showcase of Filipino games like kariling, kadangdang, tumbalata, sungka, takyan, piko, patintero, caterpillar, sackrace, bunong braso, palosebo among others will be accentuated during the celebration of the Philippine Environment Month.

The DENR Anniversary carries the theme, “Pistang Pamilyang DENR para sa Tuloy-Tuloy na Pagkakaisa at Tagumpay”.

The Opening Ceremony of the said environmental event will kick-off on June 09 at DENR Quadrangle in Lanang, Davao City.

On the other hand, the Environmental Management Bureau will initiate a virtual knowledge-building event dubbed “Capacity Building on the Permitting Requirements of PD 1586, RA 8749, RA 9275, and RA 6969 for Gasoline Stations” on June 23-24, 2022, as one of the major highlights of the commemoration of the Philippine Environment Month.
Over a hundred of Pollution Control Officers and Managing Heads of gasoline stations all over the region are expected to participate in the virtual event. The aim of this event is to increase compliance of partner industries of existing environmental laws.

Meanwhile, the Environmental Management Bureau Region 11 thru the Ecological Solid Waste Management Section will be staging an Information, Education, and Communication campaign and Regional Launch of the National Plan of Action for the Prevention, Reduction and Management of Marine Litter (NPOA-ML), which was adopted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources on August 5, 2021 through DENR Memorandum Circular No. 2021-10.

A ceremonial awarding of best environmental practices will be given to the environmental partners whose innovations make them stand out and worthy of emulation.

The awarding ceremony will take place at the SM Annex Event Center located at Ecoland Drive in Davao City slated on June 28, 2022.
